Why use the jig: the adhesive on the button layer and overlay is thick, very sticky and permanent. If a layer goes down even slightly off, it can't be lifted and re-laid, and the buttons no longer sit over their dimples. The jig's locating plug fits the E-stop cavity in the keypad board, so the board can only sit one way, in one position, and each layer goes straight down first time.
